Hiddenfield?

I wanted a name to publish software under, and the original application was a web-editing app, seeing as that is what I spend 95% of my time doing. A hiddenfield is a field in a web form that’s not seen, aka hidden.

I could spout some really clever philosophical reason for the name, like how the hidden field is not seen yet carries crucial information from page to page, and how as a software company my software is important yet understated… I think I just liked the way it sounded to be honest.

Bible Reader Free FAQ

What is Bible Reader Free?
Bible Reader Free is a free application that puts the Bible onto the Mac. It includes a number of tools that make browsing and searching the Bible
quicker.

Why is Bible Reader Free…free?
At the time of writing it, there was no free Bible reader application available for Mac under OS X. We wanted to be able to read the Bible on a Mac, so we created BibleReader Free.

We have made it possible for people to support development of Bible Reader Free, but this comes with the condition that nobody is required to support us.

A more powerful version, Bible Reader Pro, is in development, which will include many tools for in-depth Bible study. This will not be free. Bible Reader Free will always be a free application.

Why does Bible Reader Free not contain other Bible translations (eg. NIV, Amplified..)?
Many translations of the Bible are not free for use without obtaining a licence. We are pursuing these for future updates of Bible Reader, and will make them available as soon as we can. We should add that in most cases, it is quite difficult to obtain such a licence. Any updates to this situation will be posted here.

Will Bible Reader work with translations from other Bible software?

Unlikely. Each application encodes their translation files in different ways. Currently Bible Reader’s files are simply tagged with chapter/verse numbers. At a later stage the text itself might be compressed to save space. Other applications may already use compression, and Bible Reader will not know how to handle these files!

Support for the MacSword file format is under consideration for a future version of Bible Reader.

What about translations in other languages?
It would be great to have non-english language versions of the Bible in use with Bible Reader Free. There are a number of these available without copyright restrictions. If you are interested in having the Bible in your language — and you are willing to help us with the translation/testing of the new module, please contact us.

Where do the Translations go?
Each translation, when expanded, will be contained in a single Folder. Place this folder inside the folder, which is inside the Bible Reader Free folder.

When will Bible Reader Pro become available?
Because Bible Reader Pro is built upon Bible Reader Free, we want to be sure that the foundation is solid. For this reason, we are focussing all development efforts to making Bible Reader Free as stable as possible. Once we are satisfied this has been achieved, we will begin the process of adding ‘Pro’ features into the application. This extra features will be available to users after the software has been registered. A timescale for this process has not been laid down, other than to say we’re working as fast as we can!

What happened to CodeWrite/ASPWrite?
This development of this application has been put on hold. A number of issues were encountered in the development environment that meant CodeWrite would not be the quality of software that we wanted it to be.

There is talk of a new set of tools to handle the StyleData of text coming to the development environment soon. This could provide the additional resources we need to make CodeWrite a solid product. When this situation changes, development will resume. We still believe that we will have unique features that make CodeWrite an exceptionally useful code editor.

What is CodeWrite?
CodeWrite is a code-editing application, designed for developers who create HTML, ASP (Active Server Pages), PHP and Javascript web pages.

It’s strengths are in the highlighting of the keywords for these languages, and the additional tools provided for quick coding and storage of code snippets.

It began as ASPWrite in 2001, but since then, the PHP language was added to it’s list of features.

It is currently at Alpha stage of development. We may make a late Alpha version available in the near future, but the software is currently not available for download.

Why ‘hiddenfield’?
We spent some time thinking about a name for the company, based on what our background experience was. Having spent the last few years developing for the web, and having decided to launch this company because of our first project (being web-related: ASPwrite), something ‘webby’ seemed appropriate. I guess you could read other connotations into the name (all suggestions gratefully received!)
